Extension and Remodeling
of
a 1990s Detached House
Location Clonskeagh, Dublin
Status : Completed Nov 2009
The existing hipped roof kitchen extension was demolished to allow for a new light filled open plan kitchen/dining/living room with large picture windows opening to the south west facing garden. The utility, WC and cloaks are accommodated in an oak clad ‘box’ in the centre of the plan where it is darkest. This form separates the study at the front of the house from the rear open plan room. A large sliding door allows the study to be closed off from the hall when necessary whist also concealing a shelving /filing unit when open. The vertical iroko cladding which matches new iroko windows is carried across the brick facade of the existing house and conceals the gate to the side passage/shed.
